John M. Popovich, Jr., PhD, DPT, ATC was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Osteopathic Surgical specialties in July 2015 after completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the MSU Center for Orthopedic Research.  Popovich is a licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer.  He earned his clinical and research doctorates from the University of Southern California.  Popovich’s multi-disciplinary approach to investigating the mechanics, control and function of the spine has received post-doctoral funding from the National Institutes of Health and and funding from prestigious spine-related societies, including an Exploratory Research Grant from the Scoliosis Research Society and a Young Investigator award from the North American Spine Society.

Dr. N. Peter Reeves is an Assistant Professor in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University.  In 2007, he obtained a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Yale University.   Dr. Reeves' research focuses on applying systems theory, including the development of a conceptual framework, experimentation and modeling approaches to assess spine neuromuscular control. This work involves the use of robotic platforms to perturb the spine to assess the speed and accuracy of postural responses.  Prior to returning to graduate school, he worked for seven years as an ergonomic/work re-integration consultant developing musculoskeletal injury prevention and management programs, primarily in the forestry industry.  He is the recipient of the 2005 International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) Basic Research Award and the 2008 Rose Excellence in Research Award for Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Research.

LeeAnn earned her bachelor’s degree in Movement Science from Grand Valley State University and her Master’s degree in Sports Biomechanics from the University of Delaware. Her expertise are in equine biomechanics and she spent her first 10 years with MSU in the College of Veterinary Medicine as the lab manager for the Mary Anne McPhail Equine Performance Center and the marketing, communications and events coordinator for the Large and Small Animal Departments. She was excited to return to research when she joined MSUCOR as a research assistant in May of 2015. Her primary responsibilities are collecting data, subject recruitment and supervising the students.

Jourden has her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health Care Services and a graduate certificate in Alcohol and Drug Abuse from Western Michigan University. She has a wide range of health care experience and was introduced to the research field in 2014 during her time living in California. Jourden instantly fell in love with clinical trials and clinical research and was tremendously happy to start working at MSU in May 2015 after her move back to Michigan. Go GREEN!

Susan earned her Associate Degree in nursing in 1988. She worked in various nursing positions such as Medical/Surgical, Red Cross, Homeopathy at a private practice and Community Outreach programs over a span of 25 years, including pharmaceutical research. She returned to school to earn her BSN from UMFlint in 2013. She was excited to have the opportunity to join MSUCOR in 2015 and experience this type of research.
