    Jongeun Choi received the B.S. degree in mechanical design and production engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1998, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, in 2002 and 2006, respectively. He is currently the director of the Machine Learning and Control Systems Laboratory and a Professor with the School of Mechanical Engineering, Yonsei University. Since 2020, he has been the Associate Chair for Graduate Studies of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Yonsei University. Since 2019, he has been the Chairperson of the Department of Vehicle Convergence Engineering, Yonsei University, funded by Hyundai Motor Company. From 2020, he is affiliated with the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Yonsei University. Prior to joining Yonsei University, he worked for ten years as an Associate Professor from 2012 to 2016 and an Assistant Professor from 2006 to 2012, with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and also with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Michigan State University.

    His current research interests include machine learning, systems and control, system identification, and Bayesian methods, with applications to autonomous robots, self-driving vehicles, mobile sensor networks, (physical) human and robot interaction, and medical machine learning. He co-organized and co-edited special issues on Stochastic Models, Control, and Algorithms in Robotics in Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control (JDSMC), from 2014 to 2015, and Deep-Learning Based Sensing Technologies for Autonomous Vehicles in Sensors, in 2018.

    He received the Best Conference Paper Award at the 12th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), in 2015. His articles were finalists for the Best Student Paper Award at the 24th American Control Conference (ACC), in 2005, and the Dynamic System and Control Conference (DSCC), in 2011 and 2012. He serves as a Guest Editor with a two-year term (2021 and 2022) for the IEEE/ASME TMECH/AIM Focused Section on Emerging Topics, and he serves as an Associate Editor for 2021 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. He served as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Robotics and Automation letters (RA-L), in 2018, Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement and Control (JDSMC) during 2014-2019, and International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing (IJPEM) during 2017-2018. He served as a Senior Editor for Ubiquitous Robots (UR), in 2020. He was a recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, in 2009. He is a member of ASME and IEEE.

    Dr. Nicodemus earned his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and PhD in Biomedical Engineering with specialty in Orthopedic Biomechanics from UC Davis. He was employed as a Principle Scientist and Man Systems Department manager at NASA/Johnson Space Center in Houston for 6 years with the Lockheed Corporation helping to develop specifications for the construction of the International Space Station. In 1993, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Director of Orthopedic Spine research at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for 7 years prior to his attending medical school.

    Dr. Nicodemus graduated with his DO degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004 at 62 years of age. He did his residency at MSUCOM and is Board Certified in Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. After nine years as a solo practitioner in Monterey, California he returned to MSUCOM last year.

    He has published in peer-reviewed journals in both medicine and engineering and is a member of numerous medical and engineering societies and has contributed to several fundamental texts in Osteopathic Medicine.

    Dr. Lawrence Prokop received his first Bachelors of Science degree in Anthropology, Cum Laude from Western Michigan University in 1974. He has his second in Biology, with Distinction from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan in 1976. In 1980 he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Michigan State University. Dr. Prokop completed his residency at the The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1984.

    Dr. Prokop returned to Michigan State University to work as an Assistant Professor for two years in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and then accepted a position at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C.. While in Washington D.C. from 1986 to 1992 he was also an attending physician at the Washington Hospital Center, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at The George Washington University, and the Medical Director of the Amputee Rehabilitation and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation Programs from 1990 to 1992. In 1992 he became a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitating Facilities (CARF) and left Washington to open a private practice in Florida. From 1992 to 2003 he worked in his private practice as well as being the Medical Director for the Rehabilitation Transitional Care Unit in Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton Florida, and the Medical Director for the Rehabilitation Institute of West Florida, West Florida Hospital in Pensacola Florida.

    Dr. Prokop is the recipient of several Board Certificates and Honors and has lectured and published extensively on a variety of Medical Rehabilitation topics. He is actively involved in committees and with the professional organizations he belongs to.
